Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the Official Episode Eight Title

Disney and Lucasfilm dropped a Star-Wars-sized bombshell on us this morning: The next episode in the Skywalker Saga will be called “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.” While we still don’t know anything more about this next film, the title tells us a lot: Luke Skywalker, once again the last Jedi after the destruction of his school by the Knights of Ren, is going to be heavily, heavily featured. Enough that he’s considered the title character of the film. What fills me with some excitement and a little bit of dread is that the title could have a dual meaning. Luke is now the mentor of a young hero, Rey, and mentors of young heroes tend to bite it in movies like these. If Skywalker dies, Rey would be the last Jedi. Honestly, after the death of Han Solo, I’m not sure I’m ready to lose Luke, too, so I’m really hoping writer and director Rian Johnson takes us on a different path.
