Anton Yelchin, star of films like “Charlie Bartlett” and Checkov in the new Star Trek films, died in a car accident this morning, his publicist has confirmed. He was 27.
Yelchin was an incredibly talented actor who deserved far more recognition than he got. Charlie Bartlett should be this generation’s Ferris Bueller, but it never got noticed. He always stood out whenever he was cast, bringing a brightness and swagger to any role. And he was the perfect choice for a young Chekov. The last time we’ll get to see him play that role is in this year’s Star Trek Beyond.
When an older actor is taken from us, we weep for the memories we have. When it’s a younger actor, we weep for the possibilities we’ll never get to see. Rest in Peace, Anton. We’ll miss you terribly.
