Welcome back to another edition of The Pull List, the apartment down the street of ideas. I’m your host Brian J. Patterson, and we are back again this week from an a small break to bring you some more cool comic book picks. I call this episode “Jammin on the one” (yes, that’s a Cosby Show reference), as I picked a couple of comics in their first issue that seem to be jamming on their own frequency. Thanks again for tuning in, and as always…Enjoy!
Writer: Brian Michael Bendis, Artist: Michael Gaydos
I feel as though I’m watching the plot of the first Transporter movie happen in the pages of a comic book: foreign person tied up in a world of crime, meets a potential mate during tenure as employee of crime, and herein lies the conflict. If you know anything about Bendis, then you know he’s a powerhouse in the writing room. The pace of this book is slow, but there’s still a lot to like. I’m more than intrigued where this story is going, and I’m in love with the artwork which is giving modern painting realness. Go pick it up ASAP! Power level: 8/10

What happens when you exist in a future society where technology allows you to do nearly anything your heart desires via the downloading of apps including taking out a hit on people? Well, you end up having a hit put out on you, of course that’s what happens. At least it is what happened to Charlie. Although I was left with many questions after reading this book, I’m cautiously optimistic (and hopeful) that they will be answered in future issues. Follow Charlie and her bodyguard Vita on their month-long adventure to run out the clock and survive this 30 day contract.

It’s been twelve minutes. So, you know what that means?…It’s time for another major crossover, and Marvel is all over it! Extermination is a setup to the next big thing. There are a couple of major surprising turns including a guest star out of the blue, and a death that I did NOT see coming! Since this really did seem like just a setup to the next big thing, I must say that I’m very very curious to see where things go from here. Ok, Marvel, you’ve got me…for now!

Today I got the news that Aretha Franklin passed away. As the Queen of Soul, she was very familiar with the concept of #1. So in her honor I am posting this quote from her and her thoughts about being a #1.
Quote Of The Week: “Being the Queen is not all about singing, and being a diva is not all about singing. It has much to do with your service to people. And your social contributions to your community and your civic contributions as well.” – Aretha Franklin
Be the best you can be, give back, make all your days amazing, and see you next week! -Brian
