Hero 27 is now confirmed to be Torbjörn’s daughter, Brigitte Lindholm. Many teasers led up to this reveal today, which included some new lore and some red herrings. Here’s a breakdown of the build-up:
Hero 27 Teasers
#1: Ana’s After-Action Report
This tweet from the Overwatch twitter is what first generated hype for the latest addition to the Overwatch world. Right away there was wild speculation over who this “Private First Class Emre Sarioglu” was, and if they would be hero 27. Others thought that this might be a more subtle clue leaning towards the omnic who wounded Torb during Operation White Dome.
#2: Torbjörn’s Letter Home
Following the aforementioned after-action report, a letter from Torb to his worried wife appeared on the Overwatch lore archive.
You can read the full English translation here. The main point is that Reinhardt saved Torb’s life, and that their relationship is a close one. At this point, the Brigitte speculation began (though Torb is apparently as prolific as a rabbit when it comes to children and had many more to choose from.)
#3 & #4 Weapon & Shield Schematics
Next we saw a few cheeky tweets on the Overwatch twitter complete with schematics. First the new hero’s weapon with the quote “I’ll knock some sense into you.”
And then the new hero’s shield with the quote “Last minute check! Everyone squared away?”
At this point Brigitte seemed the most likely possibility. Though a resolute few held out hope for Jet-Pack Cat based on the cat paws and tail in the schematic images.
#5 Final Confirmation
Finally, the official Overwatch twitter confirmed Brigitte as the latest hero with this tweet.
Brigitte is classified as a support class making the past two additions to the roster support characters. While Moira was a hybrid dps/support, Brigitte is looking more like a hybrid support/tank. This makes sense considering her close relationship with Reinhardt. Here is her official kit from playoverwatch.com:
Brigitte specializes in armor. She can throw Repair Packs to heal teammates, or automatically heal nearby allies when she damages foes with her Flail. Her Flail is capable of a wide swing to strike multiple targets, or a Whip Shot that stuns an enemy at range. When entering the fray, Barrier Shield provides personal defense while she attacks enemies with Shield Bash. Brigitte’s ultimate ability, Rally, gives her a substantial short-term boost of speed and provides long-lasting armor to all her nearby allies.
Brigitte’s melee weapon has an extended range, enabling her to strike multiple enemies with a single swing.
Brigitte throws a Repair Pack that can heal an ally. Any healing over that ally’s maximum health provides them with armor instead.
Brigitte throws her flail a long distance, dealing damage and knocking an enemy away from her.
Brigitte deploys a frontal energy barrier to absorb a limited amount of damage.
Once her Barrier Shield is deployed, Brigitte can dash forward to stun an enemy.
Brigitte moves faster and provides all nearby allies with armor that lasts until it’s removed by damage.
Brigitte’s kit appears to be fairly solid. Any anti-mobility character is a welcome change to try to break up the dive meta. An anti-mobility support character? Sign me up.
Brigitte is now available for testing on the PC Public Test Realm and we can expect to see her added to the official roster sometime in late March or early April.
