Months ago, there was a bit of a stir on social media. Josh Gad made a funny video about pestering Daisy Ridley with Star Wars questions while they were working on a movie together, and inadvertently revealed the cast of that movie. It was pretty damned crazy: besides Gad and Ridley, the film had Dame Judi Dench, Penelope Cruz, Kenneth Branagh, Willem Dafoe, Leslie Odom Jr, Michelle Pfeiffer – whatever it was, the film looked to have one of the best ensemble casts in years. Well, now we know what they were all working on together, and based on the first trailer, it looks like a ton of fun:
Murder on the Orient Express is one of the most famous Agatha Christie mysteries, starring one of her most popular characters, the Belgian detective Hercule Poirot. Think of him as somewhere in between Sherlock Holmes and Monk. He was famously played by David Suchet in a TV show that ran, off and on, from 1989-2013. And this story is probably the best to star him, a locked room mystery where the room is a train, and everyone on board is a suspect. It looks like Branagh, also in the director’s chair, is taking the old tale and updating it with an insane sense of style, and I am fully on board.
Murder on the Orient Express comes out this November, and we’ll have more info on it as we get closer.
