Introducing Ana: the new support sniper for Overwatch!

Blizzard has revealed that the next hero to be added to the Overwatch roster will be Ana – a sniper support character.

Blizzard has described Ana as a “battle-scarred veteran who supports her teammates from a distance using a unique and highly specialized collection of weapons”. Ana was one of the original founding members of Overwatch, and mother to another playable character, Pharah. From the trailer it appears that she has some background with “Reaper” (Gabriel Reyes) and “Soldier: 76” (Jack Morrison), and it may have been Widowmaker who took her eye out.

Ana is a long range healer; her Biotic Rifle can both damage enemies and heal allies. She can put enemies to sleep for a short period through use of a Sleep Dart. Another weapon at her disposal is a Biotic Grenade. Similar to the rifle it can heal friendlies and hurt enemies in a small area. Ana’s ultimate is called Nano Boost – she shoots a dart at a friendly and it buffs their attack, speed, and they take less damage from enemies’ attacks.  You can read up on all of these on Ana’s character page.

Blizzard has said previously that Ana and any further additional characters added to the game will be free.

So heroes, what do you think of Ana?

When she’s not playing D&D or playing with her puppy (or playing D&D with her puppy?), she’s likely to be found either behind a computer at work banging her head on the keyboard because people don’t update their Flash Players, or behind a different computer at home banging her head on a keyboard because COME THE F– ON I TOTALLY MADE THAT SHOT.

  1. I will certainly give her a shot like everyone else will. It will be nice to give Macree players a taste of their own medicine with the sleep dart. But in the end I suck at sniping and this really wont effect my line up. I am more interested in her history with Reaper and 76, potential Love triangle? an additional motivation for their falling out and subsequent almost killing one another?

    • I play a lot of Mercy but I hate being in the thick of it most of the time (unless I’m with a good team that knows how to protect their supports), so the idea of someone that can heal from far away is definitely appealing. Not sure about a love triangle between her, Reaper, and 76, but their dialogue in game might hint at something in the future. I guess we’ll just have to keep an ear out for that! (:
