Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius First Impressions

Square Enix has released their Final Fantasy F2P mobile game, and I played it for about an hour yesterday. This might be THE mobile app that actually understands Final Fantasy.

The combat system is interesting and your characters have varied stats and skills that actually require some thought. There are attack chains and strategy to how you apply things. Further, they are interesting, with personalities!

The story is truly original, as in itsn’t just “relive random fights from previous games”.

The cash shop is paying for random character drops but they start you off with enough interesting characters to last you quite a while. I’ve already got a few original characters that I am drawn to quite a bit.

And yes, you can unlock all kinds of characters from previous Final Fantasy games. I’ve already got two from FF XII and Terra from VI.

Which brings me to the next thing: if you play it before the 17th, you get Terra, Wedge, Biggs, and a metric frickton of free items and in-game cash for free.

I find it funny how each F2P Final Fantasy app is incrementally closer to what we’ve wanted. I’ll have to play it more, but it seems they finally nailed it with this one!

Check it out, nerds.
