It’s a big week for DC, they’ve got this movie coming out that’s supposed to launch their entire cinematic universe, bring Warner Bros profits to Disney levels, and put everybody involved on the map as a Real Player in Hollywood. So you can imagine they’re gonna take advantage of that with as much friggin’ synergy as they can manage. And today that means we got two pieces of big DC news at almost the same time! Let’s start with the DC Cinematic Universe, and a first look at Wonder Woman and the Amazons from her soon to come big screen debut:
From left to right, we’ve got Wonder Woman’s Aunt, Menalippe (Lisa Loven Kongsli), Wonder Woman/Diana Prince (Gal Gadot), her mother Hippolyta (Connie Nielsen), and her other aunt, General Antiope (Robin Wright). Yes, that is the Princess Bride herself rocking short hair and a bow. And ok…admittedly this looks a bit like the cover of a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition with a Grecian theme. But the film has looked great in the tiny bit of footage we’ve seen so far, and Patty Jenkins is a great choice to direct, so I’m still excited. Hopefully at some point the DCCU can have some slightly less American Gladiator looking designs. From all reports so far, Gadot is one of the shining points of this weekend’s Batman/Superman slugfest, so here’s hoping.
Meanwhile, in another, weirder corner of DC movies, we finally get our first look at the most exciting Batman movie in years: The LEGO Batman movie. Check out the trailer:
Oh gods, yes. This looks amazing. Batman was the best part of the LEGO Movie, a wonderful parody that was brought to life by Wil Arnett, but I was still a little concerned that they could get an entire movie out of it. I mean, yes, it’d be funny but it’d still be Batman doing his Batman thing. Well, no – it turns out it’s going to be a movie about Batman eating lobster. If the movie is really what this trailer promises, a story about what Batman does when he’s not Batmanning, then I am 100% on board. This looks great.
And check out the sweet line up of Bat-costumes in the trailer, including Batman Beyond and…El Murcielago:
There’s a lot to look forward to in DC’s future – and check back tomorrow for our review of their present.
