Bryan Cranston is Zordon

Well, this is a bit of a surprise.

The Power Rangers movie has given us some surprising casting before, but nothing like this. Bryan Cranston, star of Breaking Bad and more recently Trumbo, has been cast as floating-blue-head-mentor Gordon in the upcoming Power Rangers film. Cranston confirmed the casting in the following tweet:

This is fantastic news for the film, as Cranston brings a gravitas to something that, as much as I personally love it, has always been a mite silly. Since he was cast so late into production, I’m sure Zordon is going to be more of an effect than a love actor, but knowing Cranston he’ll still act his heart out.

We’ll know more soon, as Power Rangers approaches a 2017 release.
