E3 starts tomorrow, with the Bethesda press conference at 6:30 PM PDT and there’s a lot to be excited for. With the big dogs (Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, and Sony) taking the stage the next day.
So brass tax, what am I excited for? With dozens of games being talked about this year, it’s hard to narrow down the list. But in the interest of space we’re gonna do just that. In no particular order:
Sony Exclusive – Ratchet and Clank (2015)
One of my favorite Sony exclusives is the Ratchet and Clank series and the remake, remaster, whatever you want to call it. The PS4 version of retells the series’ original Ratchet and Clank game. There are new weapons, areas, and strafing, all the strafing! I know I personally can’t wait to again experience the awesome dialogue and fantastic gameplay that the original offered oh so long ago.
Honorable Mention – Drawn to Death
I’m into weird games, hell, Lollipop Chainsaw was my GOTY for that year because it felt like a love letter to me. Drawn to Death feels a lot like that, but instead of it being a letter, it’s one of those doodles you write in your notebook when you’re smitten. It’s an arena shooter that takes place in the notebook of a teenage kid. It’s violent, bizarre, and just plain weird. Which means it’s right up my alley.
Microsoft Exclusive – Rise of the Tomb Raider
Okay, so it’s a timed exclusive, but I’m still counting it. In Raise of the Tomb Raider, Lara returns and it would appear as though she’s less the wide eyed explorer from the last game and now, is coming into herself as the buxom bad ass we know her to be. Hopefully at E3 (either during Sony’s press conference or the Square Enix talk) we’ll get an official release date in addition to some bonus info about the game.
Honorable Mention – New Gears of War
This might have been my most anticipated if it wasn’t for the lack of information on this. I’ve always been a fan of the Gears of War franchise. So I’m curious to see what they’ll be talking about or showing. Hopefully it’s better than Judgement.
Nintendo Exclusive: Star Fox Wii U
Another game with not much to go on. We know that Star Fox Wii U is coming before Zelda. We know that it uses the GamePad as a cockpit view. We know that we get Slippy, Falco, and Peppy. We know the Landmaster tank is returning and we’re getting a helicopter. Hopefully this year they will talk more about the different game modes.
Honorable Mention: Mario Maker
Oh my gosh, Mario Maker. Oh my gosh.
PC Master Race Games
There’s not much in the world of PC exclusive to report on (though XCOM 2 is looking mighty spiffy). Due to the lack of PC exclusive titles we’re going to open the floodgates a bit on this one to my top three games playable on PC.
Fallout 4: Umm, it’s Fallout 4… How could you not be excited for Fallout 4?
Deus Ex: Mankind Divided: This takes place two years after the events of Human Revolution and the infamous ‘Aug Incident’ in Panchaea that resulted in the death of millions at the hands of those who had installed augmentations.
Star Wars: Battlefront: Yes, I know that there isn’t much info to go on yet for Battlefront, and the info that we do have hasn’t been everything we ever wanted. But I still have faith that this game is going to be a quality addition to the family of Star Wars games.
Guilty Pleasure – Rock Band 4
I need to know what other songs will be added to the roster. Currently, we know the following song:
- Avenged Sevenfold – “Hail to the King”
- Fleetwood Mac – “You Make Loving Fun”
- Jack White – “Lazaretto”
- The Killers – “Somebody Told Me”
- Spin Doctors – “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong”
- The Who – “The Seeker”
So far, I’m happy with what I’ve seen so far, but to be honest I need there to be more Queen. Also, because it’s always been my secret dream to be Jem.
